Netflix Internet delivery moves into the living room

Netflix moved May 20 to extend the reach of its Internet delivery service into the living room with a set-top box that connects directly to televisions.

The Netflix Player by Roku allows subscribers to select from the company’s online library of 10,000 movies and TV episodes and watch them on their TV sets. The box comes with wired and wireless network connections, multiple video outputs (including composite, component, S-video and HDMI) and analog stereo and digital optical audio outputs.

Existing Netflix subscribers will pay no additional fee for the service, except for the initial purchase of the set-top box.

Editor’s note: See “Netflix to the living room likely to elevate net neutrality issue, says analyst.
