Number of TV broadcasters transmitting digital signals tops 1,000

Early in September, the number of television stations transmitting a digital signal surpassed 1,000, according to the National Association of Broadcasters.

As of Sept. 13, a total of 1,011 television stations were broadcasting a digital signal in markets covering more than 99 percent of U.S. television households.

According to the NAB, since June 2002 more than 580 stations have initiated digital transmission. Eighty percent of U.S. TV households are in markets with five or more broadcasters airing DTV, and 52 percent are in markets with eight or more broadcasters sending digital signals.
