Panasonic outlines HD migration strategy

Panasonic's P2 card can be fed into the network via a transfer unit. The AJ-PCD10 features five PCMCIA slots and is connected via ist USB interface version 2.0 to a workstation.
At IBC2004, Panasonic outlined three broad trends in its migration to HD in production.

For broadcast production, the company will expand the product line of DVCPRO- and DVCPRO50-compatible P2 products. It will also introduce more camcorders and a palm style mini-camcorder for broadcast use. The company will introduce the first DVCPRO HD compatible P2 products in 2006.

Early next year Panasonic will leverage P2’s open architecture and introduce an MPEG-based HD resolution, palm-style mini-camcorder using P2.

In high-end production, the company will develop a HDD5 P2 camcorder for global production markets. This will have 720/50p and later 1080/50p capability and be targeted at high-end production applications.
