Pittsburgh home run hitters take aim at new centerfield scoreboard
Mar 8, 2007 8:00 AM
The Pittsburgh Pirates MLB team is continuing to upgrade its HD video boards at PNC Park.
The team is turning to a familiar partner for its new centerfield scoreboard. Daktronics will design and manufacture an even larger ProStar video display than the one it will be replacing. The existing Daktronics video display in the main scoreboard will be disassembled and reconfigured with additional display modules.
The new video display will have an active area measuring approximately 35ft by 82ft, with a 160 percent greater size and resolution. The display will have the capability to show a single, widescreen image, and can also be split into multiple windows to show lineups, statistics, away game information and more.
The length of the fascia display will span 960ft and measure approximately 3ft tall. The ProAd fascia display will use the same RGB LED technology as the primary video board. The Pirates plan to use this super-wide display to provide fans with the latest game information, up-to-the-minute player and team statistics, animation and video clips. Both displays will be tied into the Daktronics DakStats baseball statistics system, which communicates with the MLB's statistical database.
