Portugal's TV Cabo turns to Omneon Spectrum server for scalable playout

TV Cabo has commissioned Omneon Video Networks’ Portuguese partner Ibertelco to expand the network's broadcast facility with the addition of two new Omneon Spectrum server systems.

TV Cabo, Portugal’s largest provider of cable services and a wholly owned subsidiary of PT Multimedia, will use one Spectrum server for playout of its pay TV cable channels and the other to support its SMS Channel (cell phone text message) and lab systems.

For the pay TV application, the Omneon Spectrum currently plays out two film channels under the control of OmniBus automation, and soon will be upgraded to support four film services.

For the lab system, five live feeds are recorded onto the Omneon server. Recorded content is edited via Final Cut Pro edit seats and converted to low bit rate formats suitable for publishing and viewing on mobile devices such as PDAs and cell phones, as well as for streaming to the Web.
