SBE objects to FCC rulemaking allowing unlicensed Part 15 devices to share BAS frequencies

The Society of Broadcast Engineers last month filed reply comments to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would allow unlicensed Part 15 devices to operate on Broadcast Auxiliary Service (BAS) frequencies under the noise temperature interference model.

The noise temperature model is the result of an effort to use frequency more efficiently and expand the total number of users on a given channel by establishing sensitivity thresholds for frequency users.

In its filing the SBE concurred with others, including Agere, AT&T, Cingular and Verizon Wireless, that a noise temperature criteria is impractical and unworkable.
