SGI emerges from bankruptcy set to reinvent business

After less than six months under court protection, Silicon Graphics last week emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week as a reinvented company.

With the help of a new infusion of capital and guided by a new board of directors, the computer company has introduced new server, storage and services solutions. The SGI once known for its cutting-edge computer graphics is now moving to computer products in an attempt to appeal to a broader group of customers. Among the company’s new target markets is archiving and content management.

As it relaunched under the leadership of CEO Dennis McKenna, the Mountain View, CA, -based company has eliminated long-term debt and raised $115 million to help it through the transition out of bankruptcy.
