SGI enhances its Media Server

SGI's Media Server

Silicon Graphics (SGI) will introduce several new format capabilities for its open-architecture SGI Media Server for Broadcast at NAB2003 in Las Vegas, Nev. These include support for D10/IMX MPEG-2 compression, DVCPRO25 and DVCPRO50 compression and support for the MXF file format.

The new capabilities add to existing Media Server support for MPEG-2 Long GOP and I-frame compression and SMPTE 360M exchange formats.

SGI said the expanded capabilities will offer broadcasters an open-architecture platform compatible with the compression and file formats needed for easy interchange with key applications such as editing, archiving and data management.
