SKY Italia looks to Scopus for digital TV solution

Media group News Corp. and Telecom Italia have selected Scopus Network Technologies to upgrade digital broadcasting platforms for SKY Italia.

Scopus is equipping SKY Italia with digital broadcast headend systems and project integration based on its CODICO product line. These systems enhance SKY Italia's abilities to offer more diverse programming while concurrently increasing useability and control over its network. The upgraded headends will be located in Rome and Milan, and will be able to transmit multiple channels of high-quality digital content, direct-to-home, throughout Italy.

The platforms are composed of E-1000 broadcast encoders, RTM-3800 DVB multiplexers, statistical re-multiplexers for content distribution, IRD-2600 professional receivers for monitoring and a state-of-the-art, user-friendly Network Management System based on Scopus' CODICO NMS-4000. SKY Italia's upgraded platforms are scheduled to go on-air this summer.
