The NAB updated its list of stations that have made the transition to digital television broadcasting this week, adding 28 new call letter stations.
The new list includes WNBC, in New York, which had been knocked off the air Sept. 11, 2001. The station is transmitting a signal from the Empire State Building.
This brings the current total of commercial and public stations broadcasting in digital to 1,129 in 202 markets that serve 99.35 percent of U.S. TV households.
The other new stations include: WNKY, in Bowling Green, Ky. (DMA #180); WANE, in Ft. Wayne, Ind. (DMA #104); WPXE, in Milwaukee, Wis. (DMA #31); KFSF, in San Francisco (DMA#5); KTTW, in Sioux Falls, S.D. (DMA #112); KTTM, in Huron, S.D. (DMA #112); WMBD, in Peoria, Ill. (DMA #117); WWTI, in Watertown, N.Y. (DMA #176); KTLM, in Brownsville, Texas (DMA #97); WRNN, in New York (DMA #1); KDLH, in Duluth, Minn. (DMA #136); KGUN, in Tucson, Ariz. (DMA #74); KMEG, in Sioux City, Iowa (DMA #140); WSWP, in Grandview, W.V. (DMA #150); WTCI, in Chattanooga, Tenn. (DMA #85); KREM, in Spokane, Wash. (DMA #79); KWBQ, in Albuquerque, N.M.. (DMA #49); KASY, in Albuquerque, N.M. (DMA #49); KQCA, in Sacramento, Calif. (DMA #19); KLPB, in Lafayette, La. (DMA #124); WXTV, in Paterson, N.J. (DMA #1); WFUT, in Newark, N.J. (DMA #1); WUVP, in Philadelphia (DMA #4); KXLN, in Rosenburg, Texas (DMA #11); WQHS, in Cleveland, Ohio (DMA #15); and KTFD, in Denver (DMA #18).
The NAB also said that with the new stations, 84.15 percent of the more than 106 million U.S. TV households are in markets with five or more broadcasters airing DTV and 59.23 percent are in markets with eight or more broadcasters sending digital signals.
