Telkonet launches IPTV trial in New York City

Telkonet, a provider of in-building broadband access over existing electrical wiring, has begun deployment to beta customers and testing of an IPTV service in New York City.

The test uses programming from Telkonet subsidiary NuVisions, whose IPTV content includes traditional cable TV programming and service enables subscribers to surf the Internet, receive on-demand programs and perform a host of Internet-based functions via a TV set. Video-on-demand, movies, games and interactive content will be added when the service is fully deployed.

The company said the NuVisions IPTV service relies on existing telephone wiring for delivery to subscribers. A small IPTV device replaces a larger traditional set-top box to receive the service, the company said.

Telkonet said that once the system is completed next year, it will be available in apartments or condominiums in New York City.
