TiVo, Netflix partner to stream movies, TV episodes to DVRs

TiVo and Netflix last week announced they would work together to give Netflix and TiVo Series3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL subscribers access to movie and TV downloads streamed from the Netflix Web site.

The companies launched a test of the capability Oct. 30 in several thousand U.S. households and expect it to be broadly available in early December. The ability to watch content from Netflix instantly on the TV via TiVo DVRs will be offered at no additional charge to customers who subscribe to both services.

Integrating the Netflix streaming function into the TiVo will result in quick, easy access to a library of 12,000 movies and TV episodes. Movies are streamed from Netflix via the TiVo DVRs through a wired or wireless broadband connection and a Netflix Queue-based user interface.
