![]() At the recent 2005 International CES convention, TANDBERG and Broadcom showcased interoperability between Broadcom’s set-top box decoder reference platform and TANDBERG’s EN5990 video encoder (pictured). |
The interoperability between the two technologies enables broadcasters to reduce the required bandwidth for HD transmission by up to half when compared against MPEG-2 performance. Most HD channels today use between 12- to 18Mb/s when employing MPEG-2 technology.
TANDBERG’S HD MPEG-4 AVC technology incorporates the Broadcom BCM97395 set-top box decoder reference design platform. It features its integrated BCM7038 dual channel HDTV and personal video recorder chip, and its BCM7411 MPEG-4/AVC video decoder/audio processor chip.
