UAE-based media company selects Omneon Spectrum
Mar 13, 2008 8:44 AM
Abu Dhabi Media (ADMC) has selected the Omneon Spectrum server system for media ingest, storage and fully mirrored playout at its new broadcast facility in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
A key factor in the selection was the Omneon MultiPort 4102, a component of the Spectrum that will make it easier for the broadcaster to transition to HD while continuing to use its extensive SD content library.
Initially, the operation will be hybrid SD/HD, but over time, ADMC will transition to HD operations. The Spectrum system offers a single file structure for both SD and HD content.
The Spectrum system, to be installed during the summer, will ingest 10 channels storing 1400 hours of SD content at 15Mb/s and will play out seven channels with an additional seven channels of backup.
Key to the solution is the MultiPort 4102, an interface adapter for MPEG-2 playout that upconverts SD content to HD and performs simultaneous playout of the two from a single timeline of any combination of SD or HD source clips. Because the MultiPort 4102 features two HD and two SD output modules, it will allow ADMC to leverage SD-formatted media while building an HD media library, without the need to put all files in the correct format before transmission.
