Ultra-slim TVs to help buoy flat-panel market

A new report from display market researcher DisplaySearch forecasts ultra-slim TV designs to be among the most important factors in the continued growth of LCD and plasma televisions.

The report, “Ultra Slim Flat Panel TV Market Outlook: The Next Big Trend in TV,” projects worldwide demand for such LCD televisions will reach 14 million units in 2012, a 219 percent compound annual growth rate for 2008-2012. Ultra-slim televisions are those with a set depth that is less than 1.57in (40mm).

DisplaySearch forecasts that worldwide penetration of ultra-slim televisions will reach 10 percent in 2012, while developed regions such as North America, Japan and Western Europe will have the highest ultra-slim TV market penetration at 18 percent for the same period.
