WOFL-TV in Orlando has installed and is using Baron Services’ Omni weather platform to augment its weathercasts.

The station, the second Top 20-market broadcaster to use Omni, is the first to integrate the technology into its HD broadcasts. The station is using Omni to add site-specific data, global-to-local zooms, HD weather flights and 3-D animations to its weathercasts.

Omni combines true-outlook weather analysis, worldwide 3-D terrain and high-resolution data, blending 3-D terrain and superimposed mapping results in a relevant, accurate localized picture of the weather as it is occurring.

Omni also contains HD data products, aerial mapping, nationwide and worldwide topography, ocean depth mapping, political boundaries and an earth halo effect.

With Omni, the station can “pinpoint weather forecasts in a graphically seamless manner,” said Glenn Richards, WOFL-TV chief meteorologist.
