HDNet will exclusively broadcast live coverage of a Department of Defense satellite launch on Monday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. EDT.
Using NASA facilities, the unmanned satellite lifts off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a mission supporting a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) mapping project. This satellite will join the first operational GPS IIR satellite, launched last year.
Technology aboard the new GPS IIR-15 satellite offers several new features for the GPS user, such as enhanced encryption and anti-jamming capabilities for the military user and a second civil signal.
HDNet will use up to 14 Grass Valley, Ikegami and Sony HD cameras positioned throughout the Kennedy Space Center, in addition to Canon 86x telephoto lenses.
The HDNet networks are available on Bright House Networks, Charter, DirecTV, DISH Network, Insight, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable and more than 40 NCTC cable affiliate companies.
