KLRU-TV, a public television station in Austin, TX, has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system for its multichannel broadcast operations.
In addition to playing out a regular broadcast channel, the Omneon system is used to broadcast an exclusive 24-hour channel for the local Time Warner cable system, and four channels on the facility's digital spectrum, which includes a duplication of the primary channel and three prepackaged schedules provided by PBS.
Part of the station's transition to a tapeless environment, the implementation of the Omneon Spectrum system provides shared storage and synchronized playout operations across the KLRU facility. Seven input and output ports with 2TB of storage for about 200 hours of material comprise the deployment.
The system is being used to ingest most of the station's standard records and for tape-delay of HD material. The Omneon server operates under the control of Crispin automation.
