ESPN promotes to Berson to senior vice president
ESPN has promoted David Berson to senior vice president, Programming & Acquisitions. In his new role, Berson will take added responsibility, including oversight of ESPN’s NHL and motor sports programming. He will continue to oversee all of ESPN and ESPN2’s program planning.


VoIPMDU.com acquires sports Webcasting company
VoIPMDU.COM has acquired a 100 percent ownership interest in an online Web site providing live and on-demand sports events via streaming video Webcasts. The Web site, www.liveplaybyplay.com, currently offers live Webcast and on demand pay-per-view facilities for a wide variety of sports organizations, including 10 junior hockey teams, nine horse racing venues, the Vancouver Whitecaps Soccer Team, the Coquitlam Adanacs Lacrosse Team, various university sports teams, and several national events such as the Challenge Cup and National Baseball Championships.

LPGA extends agreement with ESPN2
ESPN2 and the LPGA have agreed to a multi-year extension to televise the LPGA series through 2009. The agreement calls for ESPN2 to televise up to 10 events annually. ESPN Regional Television will continue to produce the events.
Altitude Sports reaches accord with DirecTV
Altitude Sports & Entertainment and DirecTV have struck an agreement to distribute the Denver-based sports network’s program offerings on the direct broadcast satellite company’s basic tier, according to a report in the Denver Post. Altitude Sports & Entertainment produces and distributes television coverage of the Denver Nuggets.
ESPN inks deal to televise CIAA basketball tournament
ESPN and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) athletic conference, have reached an agreement for unprecedented coverage of the league’s tournament.

Through the deal, ESPN2 will televise the 60th annual CIAA men’s basketball tournament championship game live from the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC, March 5, 2005. ESPN Classic will televise the men’s quarterfinal and semifinal matchups March 2 and 4.


Wolff takes ESPN International executive vice president position
Russell Wolff has been promoted to executive vice president and managing director, ESPN International. Wolff had been senior vice president and managing director, ESPN International since June 2002.

He will continue to oversee all of the network’s businesses outside of the United States.
