K Zone, FlyCam offer production sizzle for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball

This season, ESPN is employing several innovative production techniques for its presentation of Major League Baseball on Sunday nights.
For its production of “Sunday Night Baseball,” the network is conducting live in-game interviews with players and mangers, employing the Sports Emmy Award-winning K Zone strike tracker and using FlyCam to capture unique views of the action.
K Zone, which debuted in 2001, presents a computer-generated on-screen graphic that accurately outlines the strike zone and pitch location. K Zone won the Sports Emmy Award in 2002 for Innovative Technical Achievement.
FlyCam, a high-definition camera mounted more than 20ft above the stands in foul territory made its debut last season and is regularly used on “Sunday Night Baseball” telecasts. The remote-controlled camera travels down a designated base path (first or third base line, from behind home plate to the foul pole) to capture overhead views of the action. The camera can zoom, pan and tilt.
