ESPN2 HD, a high-definition simulcast of ESPN2, begins nationwide availability Sept. 9 via DIRECTV.

The launch of ESPN2 HD will coincide with the college football match-up between Pittsburgh and Ohio. ESPN2 HD will be available to DIRECTV HD Package customers at no additional cost.

ESPN2 HD recently announced new HD coverage, including the U.S. Open Series, the Little League World Series, the Men’s U.S. National Soccer Team, coverage of Major League Baseball and the National Hot Rod Association.

ESPN produced its first HD telecast more than two years ago. The network is counting on the new sports slated to appear on ESPN2 HD to open the door to new owners of high definition sets.
