NHL cancels season
The National Hockey League announced Feb. 16 that it has been unsuccessful in negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with the league players and as a result will cancel the 2004-05 season.

ESPNU reaches accord with MEAC, SWAC
ESPNU, the sports network’s multimedia college sports initiative, has reached a seven-year agreement through 2011-12 with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) for coverage of multiple sports, including cable exclusives for football and men's basketball.
As part of the agreement, ESPN Classic will provide a live telecast of at least one football and one men's basketball game a year from each conference.
Connors takes Octagon post
Octagon has hired Kathy Connors as director of strategic communications.
Connors, who formerly was manager of NBC Sports Communications, will develop and execute strategic and corporate communications efforts for Octagon’s Athletes & Personalities division.

CSTV to offer March Madness On Demand
College Sports Television will offer exclusive online live CBS broadcasts of the NCAA Tournament via high-speed Internet connection.
As part of March Madness On Demand, CSTV will offer various enhancements, such as game recaps, statistics, highlights and live press conferences.
ESPN International promotes Bunnell, Walters, Calcinari
ESPN International has made several personnel moves in its programming and production units, including:
- Tim Bunnell has been promoted to senior vice president, International Programming and Marketing;
- Mike Walters has been promoted to vice president, International Programming.
- Chris Calcinari promoted vice president, International Production and Operations.
University of Kansas video unit receives Golden Matrix Award
The Information Display and Entertainment Association (IDEA) has honored Rock Chalk Video, the video production unit of the University of Kansas athletics department, with a Golden Matrix Award for the best overall university video display.
Rock Chalk Video operates the MegaVision board at Memorial Stadium.

ACC, Big 10 extend Challenge agreement with ESPN
ESPN, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Big 10 Conference have reached a six-year agreement through 2010 to continue the annual men's college basketball inter-conference Challenge.
