NBC Sports has won the Eclipse Award in the National Television Live Racing category for its production of the June 5, 2004, Belmont Stakes from Belmont Park in Elmont, NY.
The award, presented by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), is the seventh Eclipse Award the network has garnered. David Michaels produced this year’s award-winning telecast for NBC Sports.
Judges for the category were Marty Rotberg from PBS affiliate WNET, Kenneth Sheil, former NFL Films producer and Stuart Kirshenbaum of Oak Street Films.
Honorable mention in this category went to HD-Net for its coverage of the Santa Anita Derby on April 3, 2004. The show's producer was Darrell Ewalt.
The Eclipse Awards recognize members of the media for outstanding coverage of thoroughbred racing. They are also bestowed upon horses and individuals. The 2004 Eclipse Awards will be held Jan. 24 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, CA.
