The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the nation's main public broadcast network, this summer launched News 24 in HD.
News 24 went live July 22, in time for the country's federal elections. The 24-hour news channel leverages Grass Valley HD networked news creation and integrated production technologies.
The system expands upon an existing Grass Valley SAN based on Grass Valley K2 media servers for production and playout, which accommodates dozens of journalists, producers and news editors working on a variety of projects at the network, and Ignite systems at eight locations throughout the country to produce its newscasts and current affairs programs.
ABC has strengthened its commitment to Grass Valley with the addition of the new equipment and systems. Grass Valley provided a turnkey project that included local engineers who helped design, build and commission the newsroom as well as train News 24's staff.
Ignite HD is a fully integrated live professional broadcast production system that allows one or two operators to control video, audio, server and camera functions from a single interface. Using the system’s Transition Macro Element technology, which establishes news segments and transitions as events on a timeline, all segments of a live newscast can be preprogrammed and previewed prior to a show going on-air. New, unplanned events also can be executed in real time to meet the demands of breaking news, dynamic show changes and other unscripted events.
