UK consultant, project management and systems integrator BeaconSeek will offer a
course on basic satellite newsgathering (SNG) operations Oct. 1-3.
To be held at Putteridge Bury Conference Centre in London, the course is designed
for “absolute beginners” at SNG, including cameramen, producers and editors, to
those at the intermediate level. The course will give students a theoretical and
practical knowledge of basic SNG uplink operations with flyaways and SNG vehicles.
Topics to be discussed include:
Satellite configuration
Frequency bands used
Uplink/downlink frequencies
Polarization
Using a spectrum analyzer
Interference
Safety issues, including microwave and electrical hazards
The practical sessions will include exercises on using a flyaway, including assembly,
alignment, transmission and de-rigging. They will also include the use of an SNG
truck with an auto-pointing antenna system.
