UK satellite and RF system consultant and integrator BeaconSeek will conduct a three-day training course on the basics of satellite newsgathering (SNG) operation.
The course will be held May 14-16 at the Putteridge Bury Conference Centre, at the University of Bedfordshire, in Luton, UK.
Designed for students ranging from complete satellite beginners, such as cameramen, producers and editors, to intermediate-level operators, the course will present students with the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to operate an SNG uplink, including flyaway and vehicle-based units. Enrollment will be held to a maximum of six students.
Course highlights include:
Understanding satellite orbits, including low-earth orbit, geostationary and inclined
Satellites used in newsgathering
Satellite configuration, include frequency bands used for uplinking and downlinking
Polarization
Transponder organization
Using a spectrum analyzer
Modulation and forward error correction
Finding and identifying satellites
Conducting site surveys
Safety issues
Practical exercises covering using flyaways, SNG vehicles and auto-acquisition systems.
Students also will receive a copy of “Introduction to SNG & ENG Microwave,” signed by author and principal course instructor Jonathan Higgins.
