DataDirect Network, Vizrt team up on MAM, nearline solution
Nov 2, 2007 8:38 AM
DataDirect Networks and Vizrt showed a combined solution for real-time media asset management (MAM) and nearline storage for broadcast and digital archiving during IBC2007 in Amsterdam.
Common to both solutions is DataDirect Networks S2A (Silicon Storage Architecture), which features a real-time engine that delivers sustained, concurrent streams at any bit rate during media ingest, editing, playout and browsing. Additionally, immediate access to data via all host ports is enabled through a centralized content pool. This provides a consistent Quality of Service (QoS), avoiding video frame loss even when disk drives fail or during drive rebuilds.
DataDirect Networks addresses data protection and instant accessibility with its hardware-based dual-parity DirectRAID engine and SATAssure technology. DirectRAID enables high media streaming rates that can be maintained even during check, error or failure conditions, while SATAssure performs real-time parity checks on both reads and writes to eliminate silent data corruption in SATA drives. The S2A storage system supports nearly 1000 disk drives, equaling close to a petabyte of capacity using 1TB drives.
This eBook provides both new and veteran shooters an in-depth understanding of the technology that lies between the camera lens and the recording medium and how to maximize a camera's performance.
File-based technologies have replaced video tape methods for a majority of production and broadcast operations. The worlds of AV and IT are coalescing to create new methods and workflows for media
Video compression, editing and displays is an in-depth tutorial on MPEG compression technology, editing MPEG content and evaluating color video monitors written by long-time video expert, trainer and writer Steve Mullen, Ph. D.
