KRNV-TV in Reno, NV, provided live HD coverage of the “New Year’s Eve Celebrations” party in HD for the first time with RF Central COFDM transmitters and receivers.
KRNV-TV News 4 in Reno, NV, took its decade-long history of live coverage of Nevada’s “New Year’s Eve Celebrations” party into the HD era this year using an array of RF Central microwave equipment.
As the only Reno broadcaster currently with HD news capability, the NBC affiliate covered the one-hour festivities in HD by employing two RF Central CMT-II's COFDM camera-mounted transmitters, one RFX-PHT-II portable high-power transmitter and three RFX-RMR-II COFDM rack-mount receivers.
Cameras were deployed on top of the 24-floor Circus Circus Casino Hotel where they were responsible for capturing KRNV-TV’s two-member anchor team and the fireworks show staged over the city. Additional wireless cameras roved throughout the street for crowd coverage and transmitted to the receivers located on top of the casino, where the signal was mixed and switched.
Events of this size typically present tremendous cabling and infrastructure challenges. David Feher, director of engineering for Sunbelt Communications, parent company of KRNV-TV News 4, said the RF Central equipment helped the station overcome those obstacles.
