KSCI-TV in Los Angeles, which serves the Asian-American population in Southern California, will conduct a public outreach seminar Oct. 7 to inform and educate hundreds of groups involved with the ethnic community about the Feb. 17, 2009, DTV transition.
Conducted in partnership with various government agencies, the seminar is targeting community-based organizations (CBOs) to “train the trainers” so members of the CBOs can convey information about the transition to individuals in the community. Many of the CBOs serve largely immigrant populations with language barriers, including seniors who require extra technical assistance.
According to the station, estimates show that nearly one-quarter of Asian-American households in the Los Angeles TV market depends on free over-the-air signals to receive television. That figure compares to 16 percent of non-Asian households relying on OTA television in the market.
Following the seminar, the station also will make multilingual DTV transition assistance available on its Web site.
