Reps. John Dingell, D-MI, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Edward Markey, D-MA, chairman of Telecommunications and Internet Subcommittee, March 5 asked the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the FCC to submit quarterly reports on the funding needs for the DTV converter box coupon program.
The lawmakers requested that the NTIA and FCC provide quarterly projections on whether the current funding will be sufficient to cover demand for the coupons. Each family or household is eligible for two $40 coupons, each of which can be applied toward the cost of one converter box.
