Newsroom managers looking to tap into the potential of new, affordable digital technologies to enhance their organization’s newsgathering capabilities won’t want to miss the “New Tools for Tough Times” workshop Sept. 25-26 in Atlanta.

Organized by the RTNDF and being held at CNN headquarters, the workshop will examine new tools including the Apple iPhone and Flip camcorders and how to tap into their potential when charting out a newsgathering strategy in this changing era of news.

Topics to be covered include:

· A look at digital newsgathering tools and social media strategies led by Chip Mahaney, director of digital content for E.W. Scripps;
· The role of news managers in a changing newsroom environment led by Jill Geisler of the Poynter Institute;
· The potential of backpack and all-platform journalism’s potential led by Victor Hernandez and Stacia Deshisku of CNN; and
· A review of what’s needed to integrate user-generated content into news reports led by Parisa Khosravi of CNN Worldwide and Katherine Green of CNN International.

The two-day program, including a one-night’s stay at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta, costs $40. The deadline for registration is Aug. 24. According to the RTNDF, the workshop is intended for those who hire, evaluate or motivate staff and develop newsroom systems and standards. Priority in registration will be given to RTNDA members and managers reporting to RTNDA members.
