Sony demonstrates new PMW-EX1 solid-state pro camcorder

Sony this week demonstrated the new PMW-EX1 solid-state compact camcorder for professional production.
The PMW-EX1 expands Sony’s XDCAM lineup of HD tapeless production and acquisition systems, which also includes optical disc-based camcorders and decks. The camcorder records and stores content to ExpressCard high-speed media.
The PMW-EX1 uses three 1/2in Exmor CMOS imaging sensors, each with an effective pixel count of 1920 x 1080.
The camera uses Sony’s newly developed SxS PRO solid-state memory as its recording medium. The SxS memory card, which currently supports data transfer of up to 800Mb/s, enables nonlinear capabilities like instant random access and file-based operation. Equipped with two SxS memory card slots, the camcorder can record up to 100 minutes of HD footage at 35Mb/s, or 140 minutes at 25Mb/s using two 16GB SxS memory cards.
The PMW-EX1 uses three 1/2in Exmor CMOS imaging sensors, each with an effective pixel count of 1920 x 1080. This image sensor allows the camcorder to provide sensitivity of F10, a signal-to-noise ratio of 54 dB and horizontal resolution of 1000 TV lines.
Sony expects to ship the new camcorder in November.
