WJCT builds live, remote truck to increase local coverage

WJCT, the PBS station in Jacksonville, FL, has built a new multipurpose digital truck with core technology components from Pro-Bel.
The station currently is taking full advantage of the multicasting capabilities of digital television. Besides its analog broadcast, WJCT broadcasts five SD channels and one pass-through HD channel. The four-camera all-digital truck uses microwave technology to backhaul live remotes.
WJCT wanted to increase its ability to supply both live and recorded local content for its channels to enhance its service to the community, said Duane Smith, station director of technology.
The truck uses a Pro-Bel Freeway router populated 32 x 32 SDI and 32 x 32 analog audio with a variety of control panels. It also relies on Pro-Bel Vistek signal processing technology, including analog and digital distribution amplifiers and A/D and D/A converters.
