Australian free-to-air commercial broadcaster Seven Network has acquired a Quantel Newsbox HD integrated news production system for its Canberra Parliament House broadcasting operation.
The Newsbox HD in Canberra joins a nationwide network of Quantel systems that power Seven’s news and close-to-air operations in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.
According to the Seven general manager of group technical services, Trevor Bird, Quantel helped the Australian broadcaster improve efficiency and speed when Seven centralized its operations around a hub in Melbourne. The move let Seven retain flexibility in each of its regional operations but also to benefit from “Quantel’s no-wait server technology,” he said. That experience led Seven to select Quantel for the Canberra Parliament operation.
The Newsbox HD for Seven in Canberra is a four-port system with 85 hours of storage. It also includes Quantel’s sQ Cut editing applications as well as sQ Record and sQ Play controls, making it a complete self-contained news production system from ingest to video/audio editing and playout.
