BFM-TV relies on end-to-end digital news production for 24-hour news

BFM-TV, part of the Next Radio TV Group and one of France’s television news stations, has implemented DaletPlus News Suite to equip its new 24-hour television news channel.

The Dalet installation has successfully managed BFM-TV news production and playout since November 2005. A tapeless workflow integrated through Dalet’s asset management technology, allows BFM journalists to write stories, edit video and record voice-overs from their desktops.

The DaletPlus News Suite installation integrates Omneon video servers, Vizrt graphics, BDL teleprompters and NetApp storage into a single news production entity, using one intuitive user-interface to control, manage and interact with multichannel ingest, a newsroom computer system, desktop editing, asset management and on-air playout functionalities. Cognacq-Jay Image, a broadcast systems integrator based in Paris, oversaw the installation.

BFM-TV’s complete digital environment allows the station to deliver 13 live and pre-produced news programs 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, nationwide via digital terrestrial television, cable, satellite and DSL. BFM-TV’s system provides multi-location production capabilities. More than 70 journalists use Dalet to prepare complete stories for France’s top anchors. Whether in the office or out in the field, BFM-TV journalists use standard desktop systems and laptops to write scripts, assemble footage add voiceovers and queue packages directly to the rundown for approval and playout.
