Canal Plus to build integrated tapeless news workflow for i>TELE

Canal Plus has selected the Dalet Enterprise Edition for its 24/7 news channel i>TELE. Dalet Digital Media Systems will design a fully integrated workflow and will also spearhead the system integration, which will include technology from DataDirect Networks, HP and Omneon. The Dalet Enterprise Edition system will provide i>TELE with a tapeless workflow that enables the news channel to re-engineer its 24/7 news operation, rationalizing media production by decreasing overall costs while improving program quality.

According to i>TELE CEO Pierre Fraidenraich, one strengths of Dalet is its integrated newsroom computer system, while another is the company’s ability to manage deployment of the new infrastructure.

I>TELE’s Dalet Enterprise Edition system will include a farm of servers for multichannel ingest, a newsroom computer system with more than 150 journalist workstations equipped with desktop video editing capabilities and three playout studios for distribution of content to traditional and nontraditional broadcast media, including 3G and Web. Journalists in the field will be able to use the new Dalet WebSpace portal to view and manage planning, story creation with video and rundowns.

The Dalet workflow will provide full interoperability between broadcast and IT systems. Dalet IT-based ingest servers will automatically store high-resolution material on DataDirect Network servers with Quantum StoreNext file management and simultaneously generate a proxy for immediate desktop viewing.

From the Dalet journalist workstation, i>TELE journalists will be able to browse, search, cut, edit and add voice-overs using the Dalet MediaCutter editor. With the CG on the timeline feature, journalists can select a graphic template, fill in the relevant data and place it on the video, allowing the graphics to be attached as metadata to the video and played out automatically.

Dalet will integrate Omneon Spectrum Servers, controlled by the Dalet News automation playout. Dalet also will manage teleprompters and playout of Vizrt graphics as secondary events. The core architecture will include more than 30 HP application servers for managing conversions, transfers and rendering and DaletPlus MAM for controlling user workflows. Metadata will be tracked by Dalet at every step of the workflow.
