Chyron to win Engineering Emmy for character generator

Chyron will be recognized for its pioneering efforts to display text on sports and other television programming at this year’s Primetime Emmy Engineering Award ceremony Sept. 12 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The company will be recognized with the Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Emmy for the invention and development of the character generator.

Other 2004 winners of the Primetime Emmy Engineering award include:

• Les Paul, who will receive the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award for pioneering work on sound-on-sound recording, over-dubbing and the electronic reverb effect.
• Dolby Laboratories for the Dolby LM100 broadcast loudness meter
• Sony and Panavision for the HDW-F900, a.k.a. Panavised F900.

In its 56th year, the Primetime Emmy Engineering Award is given to an individual, company or an organization for developments in engineering that affect the transmission, recording or reception of television.
