The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) recognized CNN for an innovative digital news contribution system during its 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards Jan. 8 at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The cable news organization was recognized for its development and implementation of an integrated and portable IP-based live edit, store-and-forward digital newsgathering system. In September 2007, CNN was recognized for development of the same IP-based contribution system with the IBC Innovation Award.

This year, not all winners were presented with Emmy statuettes because of ongoing litigation with the Hollywood-based Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. According to Peter Price, president and CEO of the NATAS, the organization is “in court aggressively fighting” to win the right to recognize winners with the statuette. “Once victorious, we plan to present each winner from tonight’s event with their own Emmy,” he said.
