NHL, players reach accord
The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association this week reached an agreement in principle on a new collective bargaining agreement that will end the player lock-out that washed out the 2004-05 season.
IOC selects London as Olympic venue
The International Olympic Committee voted July 6 to award the 2012 Olympic Games to London. NBC Universal Sports & Olympics holds U.S. media rights to the Olympics through the 2012 games.
Rothman, Dean to direct MNF on ESPN
Jay Rothman and Chip Dean will direct Monday Night Football when it moves to ESPN in 2006. Rothman and Dean have worked together on ESPN’s Sunday Night Football since 2001. Both will continue in their SNF roles throughout the 2005 season.
NBC Sports names new executive producer
David Neal, executive vice president, NBC Olympics, has been named the sixth executive producer in NBC Sports history.
Sam Flood, producer of NASCAR on NBC and TNT and the NHL, has been made coordinating producer, NBC Sports.
TNT begins British Open coverage
Turner Network Television (TNT) is providing 28 hours of coverage July 14-17 of the 134th British Open Championship from the Old Course at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland.
TNT, in partnership with ABC, will use 20 cameras for its domestic feed, as well as having access to an additional 50 cameras being used by the BBC for the international feed.
NBC, TNT begin NASCAR Nextel Cup coverage
NBC and TNT began coverage of the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup season July 1 with a preview of the Pepsi 400 from Daytona International Speedway. The race began the second half of the NASCAR season. FOX Sports concluded its NASCAR Nextel Cup coverage June 26 from Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA.
