FCC summit to focus on pandemic preparations, communications

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will host a summit on pandemic preparedness Sept. 16 at commission headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Summit on Pandemic Preparedness: Enhancing Communications Response for Health Care and First Responders will focus on communications and coordination between the health care sector, first responders, government and industry in preparation for a pandemic, according to an FCC announcement.
Discussions will focus on ways that communications can be expanded and enhanced in response to a pandemic and how the communications industry will serve an instrumental role in such a response.
The summit, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., is open to the public. Preregistration is available at http://www.fcc.gov/pshs/summits/pandemic . The meeting also will be streamed on the Internet.
