Indian publishing house transitions to 24-hour broadcast news

Kottayam, India-based publishing house Malayala Manorama has extended its operations into 24-hour news broadcasting using technology from OmniBus Systems.

Malayala Manorama’s system is based on the OmniBus Columbus and Colossus for automated playout. The OmniBus HeadLine DE provides journalists and editors with edit facilities.

The system is the cornerstone of a workflow that integrates the Malayala Manorama’s three studios with browse editing facilities and tight integration with third-party components, said Jayant Mammen Mathew, deputy editor and senior general manager.

In its first move into the broadcast market, Malayala Manorama worked with integrator Shaf Broadcast to create a news playout solution at the company's new broadcast facility in Aroor.

Operators can transfer material via FTP from local servers in Malayala Manorama’s two regional studios to the main TX server for commercials in Cochin. The regional studios also provide HeadLine DE systems for their journalists and editors.
