Leadership workshop to examine bridge collapse coverage

The coverage of the Minneapolis bridge collapse is high on the agenda for the RTNDF News Leadership Workshop Sept. 14-15 in Minneapolis.

A session devoted to the coverage of the tragedy will include a panel of the city’s TV and radio news executives including Bill Dallman, VP of news, KMSP-TV; Jeff Kernan, news director, WCCO-TV; Tom Lindner, VP/news director KARE-TV; and Steve Murphy, managing editor, WCCO Radio. Jill Geisler from The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, FL, will moderate the session.

Other sessions during the two-day workshop will include:

  • “Managing Change: The Rules and the Roles,” Jill Geisler, The Poynter Institute;
  • “When the Going Gets Tough: Difficult Conversations,” Andrea Parquet-Taylor, news director, WXYZ-TV, Detroit;
  • “Practical Tips for Managing Time,” Chip Mahaney, news director, WTVR-TV, Richmond, VA;
  • Small group leadership coaching.

The workshop is open to working news managers in electronic media.
