Remote Digital Media (RDM), a production services provider for corporate and network clients throughout the New York metropolitan area, recently constructed a tapeless HD flypack around the new FOR-A HVS-300HS HD/SD portable video switcher.

Since late March, the Montclair, NJ-based company has used the 1M/E switcher on productions for NBC, Food Network, YES Network and MTV.

According to RDM owner Sandor Bondorowsky, the compact HVS-300HS was chosen for the flypack system because of its versatility, rich feature set and ease of operation. RDM’s client base calls for a wide variety of productions, some requiring the use of all 12 inputs for multiple camera configurations and additional playback sources. RDM also often needs to react to tight deadlines and work in small spaces while accommodating multicamera HD shoots and on-set projection.

Along with the benefits, come a number of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is a mechanism to recover lost data in real-time. This paper will attempt to shed some light on the inner workings of the real-time data recovery mechanism: Pro-MPEG Code of Practice #3 Forward Error Correction (CoP#3 FEC). Read Now
