Sony introduces 1.5lb HDV camcorder

Weighing about 1.5lbs, the HDR-HC1 uses a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens.

Sony introduced the HDR-HC1 Handycam camcorder, a 1.5lb HD resolution consumer camcorder based on HDV 1080i operation.

While aimed at consumers, the camcorder’s $2000 price tag and features make it an attractive option for news operations seeking low-cost acquisition technology.

The new HDR-HC1 model features Sony's CMOS imaging sensor technology. The HDR-HC1 uses a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens. The combination of the unit's CMOS imaging sensor and Sony's Enhanced Imaging Processor technology enables it to capture moving and still images with smooth movements and clear pictures.
