Televisa delivers World Cup to Mexican viewers with help from Kahuna

Grupo Televisa used the Snell & Wilcox Kahuna multiformat production switcher to enable simultaneous processing of SD and HD signals in the production of the network's SD and HD coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The Kahuna's ability to integrate SD and HD sources into productions without the need for external up- or downconverters allowed the network to leverage its existing SD equipment and newer HD technology to deliver broadcasts to viewers across Mexico.

Snell & Wilcox FormatFusion technology enables Kahuna operators to combine SD and HD camera feeds, graphics, handheld shots and archive footage directly into their HD productions. The switcher also delivers simultaneous HD and SD output capability.

Televisa used two Kahuna systems, both with 4 M/E banks and two control panels.
