As cable TV operators come to grips with new competitive forces such as Netflix and other OTT providers, they not only are having to find a way to keep customers happy and encourage them not to cut the cord, but they also must deal with increased demands on their networks.
From a purely competitive point of view, many have responded with TV Everywhere, which answers the challenge giving viewers what they want to watch, wherever they may be. From a network point of view, many have built out their capacity.
However, with HDTV and the eventual arrival of Ultra HD, this initial network build out to deal with OTT bandwidth demands may just the first of many steps cable operators will be required to take.
