Global French broadcaster TV5 Monde has purchased Pixel Power’s ChannelMaster integrated playout technology. It has also installed Gallium, the company’s integrated scheduling, asset management and automation system.

TV5 Monde is a global television network that broadcasts a range of French language channels. The ChannelMaster 3D system and dual Gallium servers have been installed to handle the playout of a new children’s channel. TV5 required cost-effective, yet graphically rich playout and preferred to implement this in-house.

Gallium is interfacing with TV5’s existing PCI Louise traffic system. The latter will produce the schedules in industry-standard BXF format for ingesting into Gallium. Gallium is also integrated with the broadcaster’s secondary storage – IBM and Isilon – to manage media transfer to the ChannelMaster local playout cache.

Gilbert says, “Integrated playout technology is becoming increasingly important but deploying it does not have to mean compromising on quality. Premium graphics are central to channels across the spectrum today and that mustn’t be forgotten in the rush to increase output or lower costs.”
