Satori Audio Video, a system integrator and dealer in Scottsdale, Ariz., that specializes in home theater applications, sourced and purchased the UTAH-400 as part of a significant upgrade to the home's A/V infrastructure. The homeowners, videophiles who enjoy viewing movies and other video content in a wide variety of analog and digital formats, had outgrown a previous switching system that relied on two separate matrices — one each for SD and HD sources. With the old system, the users had to choose the appropriate format manually via a separate user interface for many of their sources.
Now, the UTAH-400 provides a single matrix for all SD and HD sources and automatically routes all types of SDI signals, ranging from live TV broadcasts to feeds from VCRs, DVD players, and laser disk players. With a Utah Scientific SC-4 control system monitoring and controlling all router activity on the network, the UTAH-400 is configured to accommodate 112 video sources for delivery to up to 80 destinations. The system interfaces with a Crestron wireless remote controller, which enables the user to queue up a list of multiple video sources for playout to any device in the home, including vintage equipment such as an original Sony HD television with cathode ray tube.
"The UTAH-400 was the ideal choice for our customers because of the complexity of their installation, with the number of sources rivaling that found in many broadcasting facilities," said Brendan Galluzzi, Satori's president. "And surprisingly, the system provides broadcast-quality results at a much lower price point than comparable systems that are specifically designed for the consumer and home theater market."
"This installation shows the versatility and flexibility of the UTAH-400," said Tom Harmon, president and CEO of Utah Scientific. "With its ability to seamlessly route and play out a large number of video sources, the UTAH-400 is perfect for any type of complex switching and routing environment — whether it's a broadcasting master control center or a home A/V system."
