Inlet Technologies unveils Fathom 2.8 encoding

Inlet Technologies introduced its Fathom 2.8 advanced encoding solution at IBC2006.

Fathom 2.8 raises the bar on quality for SD video by letting users focus on lower-bandwidth applications, such as mobile video and Web streaming.

Inlet has re-engineered Fathom 2.8 with new proprietary technology, to deliver SMPTE VC-1 and Windows Media.

As part of the Fathom 2.8 release, Inlet introduced the Fathom S Series, designed especially for SD content. This variant of Fathom supports both live and file-based input and includes workflow tools such as support for closed captioning (CEA 608, CEA 708 and SAMI). Another new feature is multichannel audio support with AC3 Dolby Digital pass-through.
