At the 2011 NAB Show, FUJIFILM demonstrated a new consumer 3-D video/still camera that it says professionals can use for POV and B-roll video or still shots. The new FinePix REAL 3D W3 is equipped with two 10-megapixel CCD sensors and a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 3D Auto function lets users capture HD-quality video and stereo audio.
The left- and right-eye lenses are synchronized to allow the dual shutters to be released simultaneously. The company said that by preventing positioning shift between the two images, the technology produces a synchronized image with a natural sense of depth.
Image data captured by the twin lens CCD system is processed by the newly developed RP (Real Photo) Processor 3DHD inside the camera. The technology merges the left/right images into a single image that can be printed on special lenticular paper via an online service offered by FUJIFILM. There’s also parallax control and interval recording for shooting moving objects.
The camera features a lenticular lens system that uses an array of microscopic concave lenses to produce binocular disparity. This helps prevent on-screen flickering and crosstalk. It also includes a 3.5in 3-D autostereoscopic LCD display that can be viewed without special glasses. Crosstalk is reduced so clear images can be displayed in high resolution, and images can be viewed on a large-screen TV via an HDMI output
